Welcome!

Welcome to a journey into a new lifestyle! One of smart choices and an enriched life. We all strive to be healthy and happy, but how often do we succeed? The world is full of magical diets and exercise secrets that will make us all thin, beautiful, and in wonderful shape.  Yet modern western society is more out of shape, overweight, and plagued by diseases of obesity than ever before.  We all know that “proper diet” and “regular exercise” will make us more healthy, but why does this simple concept fail so often?

Our philosophy and this website are about a fresh take on this simple concept, thus our title “Sex and Chocolate Diet.” Catchy, yes? But this is not about a diet, nor about any specific exercise program that you have ever seen. Nor is this site about “sex” per se.  You will find some frank discussions here but we keep it strictly “PG” around here.  It is, as mentioned above, a lifestyle.

So what are the basics?  What is the title all about? Let’s break it down word by word, not quite in order:

“Diet”: you won’t see this word used much in this site.  We are talking about the generic term for what you take into your mouth.  The basic philosophy is this – eat only WHEN you need to eat, and ONLY enough to sate your hunger.  The hard part is learning how to train yourself to do this – but it CAN be done!

“Chocolate”: oh, yes – chocolate! If I can only eat a small amount of food, is it all going to be “rabbit food”? NO!! We will learn to reward ourselves, to make smart choices, and include the things that are important to our mental and emotional health as well as our physical health.  For you, it may not be chocolate, but for many of us, it is!

Oh, yes – “Sex”: here we really mean PASSION. What gets your heart pumping, racing? We will learn together what works for us to raise our metabolism and help us become more healthy and burn off calories and thus weight.  This may actually be going to the gym, or it may be walking through the mall in the early AM to window shop, or it may be gardening, or yes, it can be a healthy love life with your significant other.  But, we will learn the passion, not the rote, not the ‘duty’, not the rigor – but what motivates us.  What moves us. What we LOVE.

And what right do I have to write on these things?  I am not a doctor, nor a nutritionist, nor a psychologist; I am a middle-aged electrical engineer who has been “morbidly obese” most of my adult life, at one time tipping the scales at a whopping 425 pounds.  I began my journey that we will discuss here in January 2010 at 385 pounds, and as of the end of that year I was one-half the way to my goal of losing 200 pounds – December 31, 2010 I had lost 101 pounds! By December 2011 I will be at or below my goal of 185 pounds – the upper end of what is considered “healthy” for a large-framed male of 6’0″…

So, come join all of us as we take this journey together.  We will look at our health, our eating habits, our rewards, and oh, yes, we will look at our passions. We only have pounds and disease and poor health to lose – we have SO MUCH TO GAIN!! Again, Welcome!
